Urbanization in Major Asian and African Cities
Rapid urbanization in developing countries has been observed to be relatively high in the last two decades, especially in the Asian and African regions. In view of the urban planning and management challenges in developing countries of Asia and Africa due to, among others, limited availability of data resources, effective tools, and proficiency in data analysis, the Mega-cities project was initiated and lead to the establishment of this platform called MEGA-WEB. This platform provides online access, visualization, spatial analysis and data sharing services of several indicators for analyzing urbanization to give diverse perspectives of not only the physical land surface conditions but also their relationships with population, energy use, and the environment. The project is aimed at contributing to sustainable urban development in developing countries of Asia and Africa. We trust this platform will be helpful to our targeted audience including, but not limited to, urban planners, decision makers, local communities, governments, and researchers.
